Based on data from the 2021 census, out of 153 local authority areas, Middlesbrough is ranked the fifth most deprived in England and Redcar and Cleveland is ranked 31st. The Middlesbrough population ranks the highest nationally in terms of deprivation and Redcar & Cleveland is ranked 28th. However 47% of the Redcar and Cleveland age 16 - 64 population was economically inactive, the seventh highest in the country. Within this report you will find how we approached this targeted piece of engagement, who we spoke to and their responses. In January 2023, Healthwatch Lambeth was commissioned by South East London Local Maternity and Neonatal Services (SEL LMNS) to talk to pregnant/ newly birthed women/birthing people about their experiences of using maternity services. The aim is to use the insight of seldom - asked communities to develop and improve maternity services. A total of 55 pregnant/newly birthed women/birthing people shared their experiences of maternity care through focus groups hosted and facilitated by local partner organisations, through individual interviews with Healthwatch Lambeth staff, and written feedback. Women from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups, refugees, migrants, and women with a learning disability shared their stories. [less]

New Urgent and Emergency Care Centre Report Walsall Manor Hospital

Healthwatch Walsall is the local, independent voice for patients and the public in health and social care. We gather feedback from the public about their experiences of accessing and using health and social care services and use that information to work with service providers and commissioners to improve services. The former A & E department at Walsall Manor Hospital has been relocated and renamed the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre, integrating both emergency care and the Urgent Treatment Centre in one place. Last year Healthwatch Walsall was pleased to have been contacted by Walsall Manor Hospital Trust to invite two cohorts of service users from our sensory loss and disability groups to visit the new department during the latter stages of its construction. The purpose of this was for the Trust to hear first - hand the views of these groups with regards to the suitability of the facilities. Following on from this and six months after the opening of the new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre, Healthwatch Walsall wanted to hear from patients directly to find out about how the new facilities and services were working for them.
